I need help or I need someone to tell me this is normal.
Every day at 3:47 PM a kitchen timer goes off in my apartment. Classic mechanical ring, like an egg timer. Lasts about six seconds. Stops.
I have:
* Searched every cabinet, drawer, and shelf. No timer.
* Moved all furniture away from the walls. No timer.
* Turned off every appliance. Still rings.
* Had the landlord inspect the unit. He heard it. He shrugged. He said "some units do that." SOME UNITS DO THAT??
* Stood in the exact center of the apartment during the ring and tried to locate the direction. It doesn't come FROM a direction. It comes from all of them. Or none of them. I can't tell.
* Checked with my downstairs neighbor. She hears it too. She thought it was mine. I thought it was hers. It's nobody's.
* Set my own phone alarm for 3:46 to see if the timer would wait. It did not wait. They now go off one minute apart, which is somehow worse.
My apartment was reclassified as "semi-responsive" in the last Housing Bureau audit but the bureau says the timer is "independent of the structure's behavioral profile" and they suggested I "investigate privately," which is bureaucrat for "we don't know either."
If anyone in the Janthorpe area has experienced a phantom timer, or if you know what 3:47 PM means, or if you ARE the timer, please reach out. I am tired. I just want to cook an egg without flinching at the sound of my own kitchen.
